Dear iTunes

I like these songs. I want to buy them. But I don't want to pay for two entire CDs just so I can own these two songs. And I am too pure-hearted* to resort to illegal downloading. So, seriously, please kindly add them to your inventory as soon as possible so I can give you money to buy them.

Kisses,

Jolene

*Or possibly, too much of a Luddite to learn how, and too apathetic to care.

I want to throw you out into space

So I heard there's this YouTube thing, and you can, like, watch videos and shit. Who knew?

Once and for all, here is the song that my fake name is based on. The video's pretty bad, and they cut off the very beginning of the song, but there it is.

And while you're here, I'll take the time to push my most favoritist band in the whole world, the Trashcan Sinatras.

How Can I Apply...?

And here's Weightlifting. You might remember I posted the lyrics to this song a while back. I know you've been waiting all this time to hear the actual song, so here it is.

Dweeze!

You know how you're always wondering what the hell Rod Stewart is singing about in that stupid Broken Arrow song? Well, apparently you weren't the only one (last question), and now you have an answer! Who knew?

Ad Nauseam

Reason number 8,459,362 why I hate American Idol: It is repsonsible for foisting upon the world that asshole in those infernal Ford commercials that seem to be in permanent rotation on EVERY fucking show I watch. Seriously, that guy is haunting my nightmares.

And can someone explain to me these Pepsi ads with Jay Mohr and Jackie Chan? I guess the whole Coke-acting-as-stunt-double for Pepsi is supposed to imply...what? That Pepsi is just too cool, or too valuable, or...something? But what it says to me is that Coke is the soda for tough guys, and Pepsi is for wimps. Doesn't seem like the best marketing strategy to me, but what do I know.

Jolene has an epiphany

So I'm perusing the latest bloggish stylings over at Atrios, and I see this, and in my mind I hear that sound effect of a record abruptly stopping, because, WHAT?! Michael Penn has a song I have not heard? Does this mean he has a new album I did not know about? How did this happen???*

So I listen to the mp3, and holy heck, this song is gorgeous, even forgetting about the political aspects, which are gravy - I'd buy anything he put out no matter what he was singing about...well, okay, maybe not entirely true, as I might not be too keen if he was singing about, like, how awesome George Bush was or whatever, but come on, he's Sean Penn's brother - could you really see that happening? (What's that you say? People don't always have to have the same political leanings as their siblings. What about Stephen Baldwin, huh, huh? He's no liberal like his commie brother Alec, is he, huh? Well? To which I say, shut up and stop trying to undermine my arguments. Where was I, anyway?)

Right, Michael Penn's new album. So I go to buy it from iTunes, and here's the point in the story where I actually talk about the epiphany referenced in the title of this post. Before downloading the album, I went to check in my iTunes to make sure there really was a new album, and that I didn't actually already own "Walter Reed," the new song, but had forgotten about it or something. So I scroll through all his previous albums, including the last one, which is called "MP4: Days Since a Lost Time Accident." I had always wondered what the MP4 stood for, and I had always assumed it was some sort of audio-techy sort of thing (and indeed, it is), but I also thought it might have some other significance, but I had no idea what. Until today, when I happened to notice that Michael Penn's initials are M.P., and that was his fourth album. M.P. 4. MP4. Oh. OH! Only took me five years to figure that out. God.

Yes, this is what passes for excitement in my little corner of the world, but it's either this or more posts about my template, and I know no one wants that.

*Actually, I know how it happened. It's because I've kind of lost touch with the music scene ever since I stopped listening to the radio after my favorite local alternative station fired my favorite DJs and replaced them with these asshole Howard Stern wannabes, and also bought up a bunch of other stations and got way too commercial (oh yeah, I went there).

Maybe this will be the cure for blogger's block

Normally, I hate the whole meme phenomenon. But this one Badger has posted is fairly non-threatening, and I really, really need something to jog my brain. Seriously, people, the well? It is dry.

1. What is your first name?

None of your business.

2. Were you named after anyone?

Not that I know of.

3. Do you wish on stars?

No.

4. When did you last cry?

A few weeks ago.

5. Do you like your handwriting?

When I put effort into it, yes. But if I'm writing quickly, or tired, it looks like chicken scratches.

6. What is your favorite lunch meat?

Paper-thin, super-lean corned beef. Preferably incorporated into a reuben sandwich (on light rye, with spicy mustard, not russian dressing).

7. What is your most embarrassing CD?

Maybe the Rod Stewart. And also the Ace of Base. But my excuse for that one is that, for some reason, it was really good studying music when I was in college. So, you see, it had educational value. Yeah. And the first Wham! album (Fantastic), which is possibly the cheesiest group of songs ever assembled, but which I absolutely adore.

I also have plenty of embarrassing single tracks. Marky Mark, Lou Bega, Rick Astley, Bon Jovi all come to mind. Oh, and there's even a Backstreet Boys song in there too, but only because I was trying to test whether you can email iTunes files, and I asked my friend to email me something she knew I wouldn't own. Hence, the Backstreet Boys. Of course, this doesn't explain why I haven't deleted it.

8. If you were another person, would you be friends with you?

Probably not.

9. Do you have a journal?

I suppose, if this qualifies.

10. Do you use sarcasm a lot?

Of course not.

11. What are your nicknames?

Just a shortened form of my first name. Which, as you will recall, is still none of your business.

12. Would you bungee jump?

If I were a contestant on The Amazing Race, yes. Under any other circumstances, probably not. But strangely, I'm not sure I'd say no to skydiving.

13. Do you untie your shoes when you take them off?

No. As I've said numerous times before, I'm very lazy.

14. Do you think that you are strong?

Physically, I know I'm not. Mentally, emotionally...I don't know. I don't think so.

15. What is your favorite ice cream flavor?

Generally, pumpkin or blackberry. Best when eaten during the summer, from a roadside ice cream place in Maine.

With respect to brands, Haagen-Dazs makes the best chocolate, Dove and Breyer's make the best vanilla, and Brigham's makes the best chocolate-chip.

16. Shoe Size?

Too damn large. Every shoe-shopping trip goes exactly the same way: see cute shoes on display, usually in something like a size 5, ask for my size, recoil in horror at giant, no-longer-cute clown shoes, spend several days trying to repair self-esteem.

17. Red or pink?

Red. No contest.

18. What is your least favorite thing about yourself?

It's really too hard to choose just one thing.

19. Who do you miss most?

My Nana.

20. Do you want everyone you send this to, to send it back?

Um...clearly this was intended to be emailed. So, whatever.

21. What color pants and shoes are you wearing?

Currently wearing: Dark blue Adidas shorts, green t-shirt that says "System Design and Management" on the front, no shoes. So sexy.

22. What are you listening to right now?

Wham! - Fantastic.

23. Last thing you ate?

Small beef-and-bean burrito with green beans and roasted corn. And a cup of pickled celery.

24. If you were a crayon, what color would you be?

Periwinkle. It was always my favorite, not necessarily because of the color, but because of the name.

25. What is the weather like right now?

Hot. Humid. What else is new?

26. Last person you talked to on the phone?

My mother.

27. The first thing you notice about the opposite sex?

Ick, I always hate this kind of question. I don't know. It depends.

28. Do you like the person who sent this to you?

Well, I stole it from Badger, so yes.

29. Favorite Drink?

Pretty much any fruity, girly drink.

30. Favorite Sport?

To play: Lacrosse, tennis, running, skiing. (In theory, anyway. It's been ages since I've skied or played tennis, and playing lacrosse is pretty much impossible now for a million different reasons.)

To watch: Football, baseball.

31. Hair Color?

Dark brown.

32. Eye Color?

Brown.

33. Do you wear contacts?

I used to. Had to stop when I started a job that required me to stare at a computer for most of the day.

34. Favorite Food?

Eh, can't really pick just one. Favorite cuisine is probably Korean.

35. Last Movie You Watched?

In the theater: Hotel Rwanda.

On DVD: Kinsey. With my parents, my brother, and my brother's fiancee. Awkward.

36. Favorite Day Of The Year?

I don't know. Don't really have one.

37. Scary Movies or Happy Endings?

Scary movies, I guess. Not gory-scary, though.

38. Summer or Winter?

During summer, I want winter. During winter, I want summer.

39. Hugs or Kisses?

Depends.

40. What Is Your Favorite Dessert?

Ice cream.

41. Who Is Most Likely To do this Meme?

I don't know. This type of question is one part of the meme thing that I really hate.

42. Who Is Least Likely To do this Meme and comment?

See #41.

43. What Books Are You Reading?

At the moment, none. I have a bad habit of buying books and then never getting around to reading them.

44. What's On Your Mouse Pad?

Don't have one.

45. What Did You Watch Last night on TV?

The baseball game, without sound, reflected in the mirror in front of the treadmill (it's like bizarro baseball - most of the players are left-handed, and the batters run to third base).

46. Favorite Smells?

Lilacs, vine-ripened tomatoes, cigars, baby shampoo.

47. Favorite Sounds?

The water gently lapping at the edge of a lake, loons (the birds, not the crazy people).

48. Rolling Stones or Beatles?

Beatles.

49. What's the furthest you've been from home?

Berlin.

50. Do you have a special talent?

Self-deprecation.

51. What is your ring tone?

Normal, boring, regular ring tone. Like a phone should sound.

A song for a really, really relieved Friday

So in the comments to my last post, I mentioned this heinous assignment I was working on. Well, it is done. It. Is. Done.

And now, I am going to steal a page from Dweeze's book (Illustrated Field Guide to Weasels, 4th ed.) and give you a song:

"Weightlifting" - The Trashcan Sinatras

I discover the wheel and watch the buildings go by
you talk a little soft, turn off the radio
I just want to hear all the past times
the rushed hours, the endless lives
don't become a burden
say the word and be free

you will find a great weight lifting
easing your mind, a great weight lifting
just leave it behind, a great weight lifting
and you will find a great weight lifting

it's been a lonely winter hibernating away
you need a little sunlight on that face
how long can you stay in the darkness?
dust round the empty nest?
you could make you way out
if you lay down the load

you will find a great weight lifting
easing your mind, a great weight lifting
leave it behind, a great weight lifting
you will find a great weight lifting
just leave it behind, a great weight lifting
and you will find a great weight lifting

I will write something more substantial soon, I promise

But until then, I feel the need to inform you that the track currently playing on my iPod is a piece of music from my NFL Films music collection, and it is called "Headcracker Suite." How awesome is that? I think the only way it could be more awesome is if they choreographed a ballet set to it. Which sort of reminds me of one of Jack Handey's Deep Thoughts:

To me, boxing is like a ballet, except there's no music, no choreography, and the dancers hit each other.

Exactly.

Omigodomigodomigod

It was soooooo awesome!!! Even more awesome that I expected!!! So awesome that I need to use many many exclamation points!!!!

And I love you guys for telling me to go, because I'm pretty sure I would have wussed out otherwise.

It was in this little bar, and I'm sure there couldn't have been more than 100-150 people total, if even that many, and everyone there was a longtime fan except for the loser old guy next to me who kept turning around to watch the basketball game (why it was on, I don't know), and Frank Reader has the most beautiful voice I've ever heard, and also the most fantastic Scottish accent, and I even got home by 11:00, and I'm so tired, and I don't even care.

That is all.

Serious Poll Question

Dear readers: I have a dilemma. One of my favorite bands ever, the Trashcan Sinatras, is playing a concert tonight. I forgot about it until this morning. So my question is, assuming there are still tickets available (probably), should I go?

Facts to consider:

*I got about three hours of sleep last night.

*It probably won't be over till at least 10 or later. (It's been so long since I've been to a concert, I can't remember how late they tend to go. The opening band is on at 7, for what that's worth.)

*It is very far from my apartment, at least in terms of available transportation, meaning more time getting home, and less time sleeping.

*I have a shitload of work to do, and I will have to be at work tomorrow morning, so I probably should not be going out.

*They are one of my favorite bands ever. I have only ever seen them live once, when I was in college, and I think, though I am not sure, that this is only the third time they've toured the U.S. It's entirely possible that they will never be back.

So...should I go? I know I shouldn't, but it will break my heart not to. If the circumstances were the same, and it was your favorite band ever, would you go?

UPDATE: Okay, I have decided to close the polls early, as I was warned by the woman at the club that tickets were selling quickly, and might sell out (which could be bullshit, but I have no way of knowing). With one vote, Dweeze has picked a winner, and I have decided to go. I may be comatose tomorrow (and I wouldn't bet against me falling asleep at the actual concert), but that's the price I'll have to pay. The one thing that's bumming me out is that I forgot my iPod at home, and I don't know the songs on the newest album very well, so it would have been nice to listen to it before going to the concert. Oh well, not much I can do about it now.

Random disjointed uninteresting thoughts, because if I don't keep posting, you all will forget about me

So I painted my nails again. The last iteration lasted four days before chipping, which I think is a record for me.

I also went to the supermarket yesterday (don't you wish your life was exciting as mine?), and got all righteously indignant over this woman who was messing with the Campari tomatoes. See, they come prepackaged in plastic containers, and this woman was opening them up and transferring a bunch from one package to another, in order to get more in one package. And really wanted to get all huffy and tell her, um, don't you know that's STEALING?? Because I thought the packages were a flat price. I glared at her, and she reacted by pretending not to see me, that bitch. And then later, I noticed that the tomatoes were priced by the pound. So, whatever. But I should point out that these tomatoes were $4.99 a pound. I hope they were the best tomatoes ever, at that price.

In the complaint department, I really am disappinted in the yogurt selection. I used to eat a lot of yogurt, but I hardly ever do now, mostly because it just doesn't occur to me. But also, they never have anything good. First, most of it is all that fat-free crap. It never tastes as good, and I can't stand how they add gelatin to it. The way I see it, if you're going to eat something, you shouldn't half-ass it. If you're not going to fully enjoy what you're eating, I don't see the point to eating it at all. Of course, this attitude may be the main reason why I've gotten so fat, but we don't need to talk about that.

But anyway, the brand I always liked best was Dannon, and the flavor I liked was lemon. Now, they no longer make lemon (or at least, my supermarket doesn't sell it). And, Dannon made their containers smaller. I fucking HATE when companies do this - they make the container smaller and keep the price the same, instead of just raising the price on the old container. Apparently, there's some sort of psychological effect where all people see is the absolute price, and not the...I don't know what it's called, but you know what I mean - the price per ounce or pound or gallon or whatever unit of measurement you're using. WTF? So I can't have an 8-ounce cup of yogurt because the rest of the population is too stupid to see that a decrease in size IS a way of increasing the price. Geez, I never thought yogurt could get me so angry.

Also, here's another WTF? moment from the supermarket. I wanted to buy some tea. Normally, I like Republic of Tea, but there aren't many places to buy it - mostly gourmet food stores, and, oddly, Barnes & Noble. But Bigelow makes this tea called Constant Comment, which is black tea with orange peel and spices, and it's really good, and I needed some more. So they sell it in boxes of 20 and boxes of 40. The 20 was two for $5.00, and the 40 cost $5.49. Believe me, I checked to see if there was some explanation, like, maybe just the 20 was on sale, but no, those were the normal prices. MAKES NO SENSE, people. Someone in accounting needs to do something about that.

In other news, last week, for about a day and a half, the firewall at my office was down for some reason. I have no idea whether it was intentional or accidental, but all of a sudden, I could check my personal email (I always try once in a while in the vain hope that maybe they've changed their minds about blocking it), visit a certain message board, and look at porn. I mean, in theory, that is. Anyway, it was very strange checking this particular message board, since I usually can't during the day. It almost felt like I was spying. I didn't want to post anything, because I didn't want to get used to it only to have them cut it off again, but alas, they did anyway. Pity me.

Because it seems I must always mention something about TV, I have to say something about the newest Old Navy commercial. As a general rule, I've always found Old Navy commercials annoying, but this time they have gone TOO FAR. Yes, I'm talking about co-opting Bust A Move. That is wrong. You don't touch a classic like that. I am SO not kidding about this.

On the agenda tonight: laundry. I'm trying not to get overwhelmed with the excitement of it all, but it's damn hard.

If Dweeze says jump, jump I must

So I see here where we have this musical questionnaire I'm supposed to complete. Okay, then.

1. Last CD you bought

Probably was Autumn Thunder: 40 Years of NFL Films Music (10-disc box set) or the newest from Tears For Fears, both of which I bought a few weeks ago. At some point recently, I also bought a CD sight-unseen (or sound-unheard, I suppose) from some Andean musicians who often sell CDs in the shopping district near my office. What can I say, I'm a sucker for a pan flute.

2. Last song listened to before this message

"Live Until I Die" - Ass Ponys

3. 5 songs you listen to a lot or mean something to you

I'm not sure I like this question. "Songs I listen to a lot" and "songs that mean something to me" are two entirely different things. Also, songs could mean something to you in a good way or in a bad way, and "meaning something" could mean that the lyrics mean something to you, or maybe that the song as a whole is meaningful. Like, every time I hear "What's Up" by Four Non Blondes, it makes me think of this time in college when this guy I was going out with dumped my ass right before we were supposed to go to a movie premiere that he'd gotten free tickets to, and for some unknown reason, I still went with him, despite the fact that I was nearly boiling over with rage, and that song was playing in the car on the way there. Or there's "Whiter Shade of Pale" by Procol Harum, which I always used to listen to in college when I was depressed. I don't think I want to make a list of songs that mean something bad, though, because that's no fun.

But leaving those out, the question still taunts me with its ambiguity. If I sort my iTunes by number of times played, the five that come up on top are, starting with most times played:

"Du Hast" - Rammstein (Interestingly, this song also came up here.)

"You Win Again" - The Bee Gees

"White Flag" - Dido

"Another Night" - Real McCoy

"Lambada" - Kaoma

Not all of those are recent, though. Lately, one song that I keep playing is "True Faith" by New Order. It is just a fucking brilliant song.

As for songs that mean something to me (in a good way; see above), this is harder, because I can't really look at iTunes to jog my memory, unless I want to scroll through nearly 3500 songs, which I don't.

Probably the oldest one I can think of is the Bee Gees' "Stayin' Alive", which, besides being an awesome disco song, reminds me of when my Dad used to play it for me when I was a little kid, and I'd dance to it in his study - that's where he kept the record player. Yes, people, I do remember record players. In fact, one day, I wanted to listen to it so much that I decided I'd try to play the record myself, and of course I ended up scratching it. When my Dad discovered this, he wondered aloud how it had happened, not appearing to have any idea I could have done it, and I certainly didn't volunteer the information. Even to this day, I have never told him, and man, suddenly I feel so ashamed. Maybe this isn't such a good memory after all. Anyway, moving on...

When I was about 14, a bunch of friends and I were at summer camp, and we made up a dance for some sort of talent show thing that was set to "She Drives Me Crazy" by Fine Young Cannibals. It was a pretty lame dance, but we had fun, and for years afterwards, it was all I could to keep myself from doing the dance every time I heard the song. I've since forgotten most of it, but I can still do part of the chorus.

When I was a freshman in college, my two roommates and I had this thing where, when we got really stressed out (which was quite often), we'd blast "Life is a Highway" by Tom Cochrane (yes, it's a cheesy song - I don't care) at two in the morning and dance around in our room. I'm sure our neighbors loved that.

And then there was grad school, where the song "Gangsta Trippin'" by Fatboy Slim will always remind me of this one party at the apartment of my friend the former Calvin Klein underwear model (I am not making that up - he really was - and now he has a Ph.D., so there), and our other friend got really drunk and put handprints on his own ass using fluorescent body paint.

Oh, and I just remembered this last one. "Lonely Planet" by The The will always have a special place in my heart, because I won a radio contest by knowing the lyrics. The contest was that they would read (not sing) a couple lines from a song, and you had to call in and say what the song was. I am usually terrible at this - whenever someone sends around one of those lists of 100 song lines, and you have to guess what the songs are, I can usually get about five of them - so I was amazed that I got the answer. I was actually the third person who got through, but the first two got it wrong. I won a Timberland backpack, which is probably the most random prize I've ever heard of, and which I still have.

Anyway, those are some songs that mean something to me, I guess, in the sense that they all have significant memories attached to them. I'm not sure if I properly followed the rules of the question, but hey, this is where I invoke the this-is-my-blog-and-I'll-do-whatever-I-damn-well-please provision of the blogging laws, so screw you all if you have a problem with it. Ha!

4. Who am I going to pass this stick to?

Well, ExI says he's looking for more ways to waste time.

Unbelievable

The previous post prompted me to go look at the TCS' webpage, and apparently they toured the U.S., including my city, for the first time in over ten years, LAST FALL, and now I may just be on the verge of committing small-scale violence because I missed it.

So now, I guess I think this is a music blog or something

Because I feel like being random (I know, you're saying, and this is new, how?), here is a list of the 50 best Scottish bands of all time, as voted on by, I assume, the Scottish public:

1. Belle & Sebastian
2. Travis
3. Idlewild
4. Wet Wet Wet
5. Sensational Alex Harvey Band
6. Simple Minds
7. Teenage Fanclub
8. Bay City Rollers
9. Primal Scream
10. The Proclaimers
11. Texas
12. Mull Historical Society
13. Big Country
14. Snow Patrol
15. Franz Ferdinand
16. Bis
17. Deacon Blue
18. Fish
19. Jesus And Mary Chain
20. Mogwai
21. Runrig
22. Trash Can Sinatras
23. Del Amitri
24. Orange Juice
25. Nazareth
26. Beta Band
27. Biffy Clyro
28. Altered Images
29. Aztec Camera
30. Eddi Reader
31. Goodbye Mr Mackenzie
32. Fire Engines
33. Delgados
34. Arab Strap
35. Vaselines
36. Associates
37. The Pastels
38. Eurythmics
39. Aereogramme
40. Blue Nile
41. Boards Of Canada
42. Rezillos
43. Incredible String Band
44. Cocteau Twins
45. Dogs Die In Hot Cars
46. Spare Snare
47. Average White Band
48. Lulu
49. Skids
50. Shamen

It's a little puzzling that the Eurythmics placed so low. I guess maybe the Scots have a little different perspective than we do here in the U.S., where many of these bands probably have had no exposure, but still, it's weird. Also, it is my personal, totally biased opinion that it's an absolute travesty that the Trash Can Sinatras are not number 1.

Eh, Why Not

Apparently the thing to do today is to put your iPod on shuffle and post the first ten songs that come up. I pretty much do that all day anyway (the listening to the iPod on shuffle, not the posting of songs), and I got nothin' better to write about, so here goes:

The Sky is Broken - Moby
I've Come For My Award - The Beautiful South
River Deep, Mountain High - Erasure
Two Spaces - Frank Black
Policy of Truth - Depeche Mode
It Suits You Now - Machinery Hall
Du Hast - Rammstein
Solitude - The The
Maldòn - Zouk Machine
Drown - Gravity Kills

I will admit that I skipped over a couple of classical tracks that came up, but only because I actually do skip them, unless I am specifically listening to classical music. I will not admit that I skipped anything else, for example, if there was a song in there by Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch. Nope, I would not admit that, even if it had happened. Which it didn't. I SWEAR. (Of course, I've been known to lie about things from time to time. Not that you'd ever know.)

ANYWAY.

As you may or may not be able to tell, even the newest stuff there is at least several years old. That's because I quit listening to the radio about four years ago for a variety of reasons, most of which involve me being a lazy ass, and I haven't bought much new music since then. It's actually been good for me financially, because I used to spend way too much money on music. However, given how many DVDs I've bought in recent memory, it's probably a wash. Oh well.

I hope I don't regret this

I did it. I changed the title.

Like I said in the last post, I hated the old title. It was the title of a song, and I liked the song. It was a fun, kicky song. But it never really felt like me, whatever that means.

So I was thinking for a long time about what I would change it to. I am not a very creative person, so I didn't even bother trying to come up with something original. Mostly I tried sifting through my music collection to try to find something interesting and appropriate, as well as obscure enough that it wasn't immediately obvious where it came from, and not too long (yes, I know was obsessing and overthinking this - that's what I do). As you might imagine, that was a tall order.

I tentatively settled on something from another Cake song, because I thought it would at least go with my "name" Jolene (also from a Cake song). But I still wasn't crazy about it.

Then I got this wacky idea that I could reinstate the name of my old blog, the one I had before this one, which no longer exists. The name of that blog was actually the only thing about it that I wanted to keep when I deleted it. It not only fits my personality (sadly enough), but it has what I think is a pretty funny backstory, which I had completely forgotten about until just now. So it makes me laugh, which is always a good thing.

Anyway, if you have a link to my blog, the URL didn't change, so all you have to do is change the link text. Sorry for the inconvenience. I promise I won't do this again!

At least not for a little while...

Who are you, and what have you done with my mother?

This week's sign of the apocalypse: I'm in the car with my mother this weekend, and we're arguing over who was responsible for putting the radio on the crap top 40 station (I think we ended up concluding that it was actually already set to it from when my brother was using the car the day before), when a new song starts, and it's Eminem's "Lose Yourself", and my mother actually turns the radio up and says, in response to my perplexed, probably horrified expression, "What? I like this song. I think he's very talented." Don't get me wrong - I don't hate Eminem (although I don't particularly like him, either), but this is the same mother who normally listens to what is generally referred to as "soft rock" or "adult contemporary" (or what I refer to as "pure unadulterated musical evil"). I don't know. I just don't know.

Score one for Jolene the music sleuth

I found out what the song is! What song? This song from the Michelob Light commercial. Yay me!

If you too were wondering, "the original version was released on Giant Step Vinyl in 2001. The 'Bonita Fly' mix was just recently made, specifically for the Michelob Light Commercial. It will only be available commercially on the upcoming 'Turntables on the Hudson Volume 4' CD In Stores June 3rd", according to this site.
